Our Mission

Four graduates - Adam Furlong '09, Albert Monte '07, Rick Freniere '02, and Andrew Cutney, M.D. '97, have come together to try and build a better network of former oarsmen (and oarswomen), parents, families, and friends of HC Men's Rowing. We have done this exclusively through word of mouth, tracking down older alumni, and asking them to help us in this venture. We are excited to say that we have now collected the names and contact information for over twenty years of oarsmen, and we are looking forward to continuing to build that list.

With this contact information, we hope to be able to do a couple things:

1a. Help the team as they travel

Over the past six years, the team has been ranked in the US Rowing Top 20 on multiple occasions, and several of the teams throughout the 90s raced at the IRA National Championship Regatta, including the 1995 Lightweight boat which made the Grand Final at the IRA. With these successes, the team has had the opportunity to travel to new and exciting places in order to find the best competition in the country. Since my time at HC (2005-2009), the team has raced in the following places:
· Princeton, NJ for the Princeton Chase
· Pelham, NY for a dual against Columbia
· Boston, MA for duals against MIT, Northeastern, and BU
· Camden, NJ for the IRA Regatta and duals against Georgetown
· New Brunswick, NJ for a dual against Rutgers
· Annapolis, MD for a dual against the US Naval Academy
· Washington, DC for the GW Invite
· Sacramento, CA for the IRA Regatta
With that being said, we would like to start building a finishline presence for the team as they race away from Lake Quinsig. We’ve had parents do it informally over the years, but there are enough of us in the major regions – Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, and Washington – that we should be able to make our presence felt whenever the team travels.

1b. Gatherings as the team travels

What better opportunity to catch up with long lost friends then doing so while watching your alma mater race? Throughout the racing season, we will be working to identify major races that we hope to have large turnouts for, and we will help to promote any post-race celebrations. In the future, we hope to have annual events at the GW Invite (Washington, DC, in April), EARC Sprints (Worcester, MA in May), and the Princeton Chase (Princeton, NJ, in October). The annual Golf tournament that takes places the weekend of the EARC Sprints is not an event to be missed!

2. Networking

HC has always boasted about its strong alumni presence and connections, and the bonds that were built amongst teammates make this even more prevalent. We hope to be able to help recent graduates navigate the work force as well as connect each other based on regions or industries or career aspirations.

3. Share news about the season

Throughout the seasons, we will share news updates, pictures, videos, and occasional interviews with team members. For those that are crew junkies, we hope that this will provide more insight than row2k.com results or the recaps that can be found at the school athletic page.

We will always appreciate feedback and ideas about how to improve this organization or further help the team and/or each other. If you ever have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at friendsofhcmensrowing@gmail.com
