A place for alumni, parents, friends, and families to follow the success of the HC Men's Rowing team throughout the year, as well as learn about social and professional events in some of our major locations.

In Memoriam Matt Burke '95

The Holy Cross Rowing community lost Dr. Matthew Burke, Major US Army, Class of 1995, on February 6, 2011 due to injuries sustained from an accident on October 1, 2010 that occurred while riding his bike just outside of Augusta, Georgia. On March 30th, 2011, Matt was laid to eternal rest at Arlington National Cemetery. He leaves behind his wife, Bonnie, and his daughter, Anna, who just turned one year of age.

Matt was an integral member of the 1995 Varsity Lightweight Eight while rowing 5-seat. The crew finished 6th at the 1995 IRA Championships, earned the Bronze Medal at Champion Intercollegiate Regatta, the Silver Medal at the New England Championships, the Gold medal at the Patriot League Championships, and traveled to England for the Royal Henley Regatta.

Matt left the college and went on to even more illustrious achievements within his medical profession and career with the USAF, including a tour in Iraq and providing orthopedic care to our nation’s soldiers and veterans while stationed in Augusta, Georgia.

Most importantly, Matt was a husband, father, son, brother and friend. I knew Matt as a teammate and friend. He was a great guy. He embodied all of the attributes of a dedicated Holy Cross oarsman and he will be missed.

Please honor Matt’s legacy with the rowing program by making a donation to the Anna Burke College Fund.

It is a Uniform Transfer to a Minor Account (UTMA) set up through Crest Financial Services in Chattanooga, TN that Bonnie will use for Anna’s educational needs. The account will be managed by Carrie Streets, a friend of Matt and Bonnie, at Crest Financial Services/ LPL Financial. Bonnie is informed about all contributions to the account and will be intimately involved in its management.
